Can you feel it? It’s not only spring that’s in the air, but also the increasing sense that things are starting to get back to normal, at least on some levels. For those who have gotten their vaccines, the CDC has advised that it’s ok to do a little traveling now. And what better time than the most gorgeous part of the year?
As the days go by, the call of the road grows stronger and stronger. The roadtrip is an American pastime nearly as old as the automobile itself. Looking to get behind the wheel of your own adventure? We’ve picked a few Oregon trips to get you on route for your own piece of the roadtrip tradition!
Tillamook coast. Mountains and rivers are great, but if you haven’t been to the coast you haven’t had the full Oregon experience. By road, the rugged beauty of the Tillamook coast is only about an hour and a half from Portland. Once you sight the Pacific Ocean, take a spin down the Oregon Coast Highway to soak in the views and hit any number of seaside parks and attractions.
Silver Falls. If you’re trying to get an inland look at the state’s natural beauty, Silver Falls State Park is a great place to mark on your road map. The park, which is the largest in the state park system, is about a three-hour round trip from Portland. For those willing to walk, it’s also a can’t miss. The Trail of Ten Falls loop brings you up close and personal with (guess how many) of the state’s premier waterfalls.
Mt. Hood. A classic trip for all the right reasons! The mighty peak of Mt. Hood is close enough to Portland to be seen by just about every resident at some point or another. In less than two and a half hours, you can drive right up to the mountain and get up close and personal! Mt. Hood rises from a national forest of the same name and is home to plenty of hiking, camping and fishing opportunities.
